Cornish Surfing was first established in 2019 as the latest addition to Cornish kayaking and Cornish coasteering.
With the arrival of surfing Coll and Henry decided that they would need an umbrella brand to help tie everything together, this was Cornish Adventure created in Autumn 2020. Cornish Surfing is run on the low tide alongside kayaking this means we can get the most space down on Polzeath Beach. Polzeath is a great place to start surfing with its smooth spilling waves perfect for beginners.
What is Cornish Surfing?
Surfing with Cornish Surfing is the best way to kick start your surfing odyssey, under the watchful gaze of two of our top notch instructors you’ll learn everything there is to know about surfing. If you’ve already begun surfing with us or elsewhere then it’s all good our instructors can still help you climb up the ladder and improve your surfing skills.
The first things to learn on our beginners lesson are the basics such as parts of the board, beach safety and then how to catch waves lying down. As our instructor Henry will tell you “If you can’t catch a wave lying down then there’s not much hope for standing up!” After the lesson on the beach we will take you into the water for the first stint of surfing. Once you’ve mastered the basics then it’s back to the beach.
The second phase of our beginners lesson is to learn how to start standing up, our instructors will show you a method they think is going to work best for you and have a few practices on the beach, then it’s back to the ocean for the second surfing stint.
Throughout the session the instructors will be giving you tips and tricks to help improve your skills as well as regular breaks for those that need it. For those that have already learned the essential surfing skills either with us or elsewhere, don’t panic, you won’t be stuck doing beginners lessons every time! One of our instructors will take the basic lesson whilst the other will continue your personal surfing adventure.
Cornish Surfing is growing every year and we aim to keep that going whilst maintaining excellent service, with the Cornish Adventure also growing as a brand Coll and Henry’s minds have begun thinking about the next activity Cornish SUPing stay tuned for more updates over the coming year!
